BOOM! Studios is taking another trip into the “what if” scenarios in the new title, Vampire Slayer. This time, the calling/burden of being the Slayer has been taken off of Buffy’s shoulders and is now on Willow’s instead. The timid, young witch is struggling with her new role as the Slayer – which makes now a good time for a visit from another Buffy the Vampire Slayer character.

It's interesting to see Willow in the shoes of the Slayer. When Buffy was introduced, she was already semi-trained and battle tested. Though Willow has inherited her friend’s memories, she lacks the training and instincts to do the job. This series by Sarah Gailey is getting into the hardships and fear of being a slayer with some glimpses of Buffy living the normal life she always wanted.

So far it’s a good alternate reality comic without too many huge changes to make the story unrecognizable.
