Frank Miller Presents; $3.99

With a story that ties more directly into the Ancient Enemies tale featured in the Frank Miller Presents Ashcan than the first two issues of regular series have (at least superficially), Ancient Enemies: The Djinni #1 is the first of a series of one-shots focusing on the newly super-powered humans in the aftermath of crash of an alien spaceship on Earth.

Creator-publisher Dan DiDio teams with co-writer Kevin VanHook (Changelings) to spotlight The Djinni, one of the powerful characters created by the arrival of the warring alien factions. Between the story, the artwork by artist Jose Luis and Jonas Trindade, and the beautiful colors by Hi-Fi, this issue grabs hold of the reader’s attention and doesn’t let go.

The other character-centric one-shots like this one will come on the off months that the regular, bi-monthly Ancient Enemies is not scheduled to ship. It’s a clever way to aid in the world building going on in this series.
