Will Profane is a fictional detective who stars in crime novels written by Spud Coltrane. When the author was killed, Profane crossed over from his fictional home to the Non-Fiction world where he hopes to find Coltrane’s killer. He is tethered to Non-Fiction by a fan named Egbert Bigg, and if Egbert dies, Profane will be forgotten.

Writer and creator Peter Milligan is putting a lot of detail into this story. Profane’s hands are full with trying to stop the villainous Red Glove and femme fatale Honor De’ath, keeping Egbert alive, and attempting not to fall for songbird Lili. It’s an engaging crime comic that both makes fun of genre tropes and follows them in clever ways. Artist Raül Fernandez and colorist Giada Marchisio bring the tone of the comic to life with panels drawn in the angles found in noir films and loads of shadows to enhance the drama.

Profane comes to a conclusion in the next issue, and I hope he survives for a sequel.
