Power Lords was a science fiction action figure line produced in the 1980s. The colorful and creative characters have made their way to comics in this new series at Oni Press. It starts with a big space battle between our heroes Adam Power, Shaya the Queen of Power, Sydot, and others, and their foes led by Arkus. Then things get even more complicated when the bad guys reveal their biggest weapon.

This first issue is like the best parts of a Saturday morning cartoon. Writers Dennis Culver and Matt Hotson provide quick introductions during the battle, already establishing important character traits for each team member. Artist V. Ken Marion presents the action with excitement and drama, then colorist Andrew Dalhouse fills it in with rich, vibrant colors. It’s a fun read for fans of the action figures, but is also perfectly accessible for new readers who enjoy science fiction comics.
