The first issue of Plague House is primarily about setting the scene and introducing the ghosthunters. Writer Michael W. Conrad and artist Dave Chisholm provide their backgrounds and position in the group, as well as showing the gruesome story of how Orin murdered his family. Between Conrad and Chisholm, Plague House #1 has already established an ominous tone and teases sinister forces for a twisted ghost story.
