Comic collector Lamont Larson, who compiled the famed Larson Pedigree died on December 31, 2020.

The Larson Pedigree is one of the earliest pedigrees in the hobby, consisting of over 1,000 books published from 1936 to 1940. The Golden Age collection is filled with notable titles, including some of the most important keys like Action Comics #1 and Marvel Mystery #1. Larson’s name is written on the covers of the books, which led to the recognition of the pedigree and provided the spark for pedigree collectors. His collection was discovered in the mid-1970s and has become one of the most famous pedigrees in the hobby.

Larson began reading comics at about the age of 9. He grew up in Northeast Nebraska near Omaha where he purchased comics from a local shop called Cruetz Drug Store. The storeowner put aside copies for Lamont every week of the titles he was interested in. After reading his comics he placed them away in storage that explains the existence of the books today. In 1940 his family moved and the comics were placed in storage in a barn around 1941. Many years later his mother sold the comics to a local antique dealer and about two years after that sale they made their way into the comic collecting marketplace.
