Joker: Folie à Deux director Todd Phillips has dropped the first image of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, and since it was Valentine’s Day, he went with a romantic shot.
The photo shows Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck/Joker standing face to face and very close to each other. Phillips uploaded the image to Instagram with the caption, “Happy Valentine’s Day.”
It was announced in August 2022 that Lady Gaga had joined Joker: Folie à Deux, and both she and Phillips hinted that she would start filming early in the new year.
In the first Joker, Arthur was a lonely, very misunderstood man, so the musical sequel will put the focus on the romance between Joker and Harley. Phillips has previously stated that the title Folie à Deux was chosen for the phenomenon in which multiple people share the same mental disorder.
Phillips and Scott Silver, who wrote the first Joker worked together on the script for the sequel. Zazie Beetz is returning in her role as Sophie Dumond and Brendan Gleeson is joining the cast in an unnamed role.
Joker: Folie à Deux is set for theatrical release on October 4, 2024.
