March 30 was first day of bidding in Morphy's Spring Auction. The auction
is scheduled to continue through April 1. Since the auction opened right as
Scoop was going to press, we are going to have full coverage in next
week's edition.
The earliest results look extremely promising. As the
second day begins, Morphy looks poised to once again break a Million Dollars in
total sales for the three day event.
Among the standout lots in the
first day of the auction were lots from the Leonardo DiCaprio Star Wars
collection. The condition of almost all the figures was pristine. Each was still
on it's original card and many were un-punched. Many of the prices exceeded
pre-auction estimates. Especially notable was the $4,500 received for the rare
vinyl Jawa figure from the very first wave of Star Wars figures.
With
live bidding on the floor in Denver, Pa, live simultaneous bidding on eBay and
phone bidders all crowding together in one unified collector's frenzy, the event
opened with fireworks. Several of the earliest lots exceeded pre-auction
estimates. Complete details can be found at
http://www.morphyauctions.com/default.html.
The auction is a perfect example of the variety and quality that
collectors and hobbyists have come to expect form Morphy. Among the lots are
antique advertising, plenty of character-related toys, figural cast iron
(including door knockers and book ends), glass, holiday items and a great
selection of mechanical banks. If you visit the website and see something in
the remaining activity that you have been looking for, don't hesitate to
register or visit the live auction on eBay.
We have listed some early
results below. The remaining items are going on the auction block on March 31
and April 1.
