Fresh off the celebration of their February 9, 2008 sale in which an 1869 24-cent inverted stamp sold for $1.2 million dollars, Philip Weiss Auctions is looking forward to spring. Closing out the wintery season is the sale of an impressive family estate from Pelham, New York this Saturday and Sunday, February 23-24, 2008. The collection includes items from Harper Publishing, the consignor’s namesake, which includes a complete run of Harper’s Weeklies and a group of original illustrative art. Sunday an original oil painting attributed to John Sherburne Blunt and a recently discovered 14th century oil on board painting by Allegretto Nuzi will be available for a bidder’s frenzy.

After a brief break, Philip Weiss will host an impressive auction on Saturday and Sunday, April 5-6, 2008. Sunday will feature a private collection of high-end mechanical banks, slot machines, and coin-operated machines, led by a “Girl Skipping Rope” bank. Another selection on April 6 is part one of The B.L. “Phil” Phillips Collection, which will showcase many high-end robots and space toys, then part two will take place in May with vintage and rare battery-operated toys, Franklin Mint pieces, and more. Before the second half, comics fans should be in high gear for the sale on April 26, including a comic collection of over 1,000 pieces of Golden and Silver Age, graded and pedigreed books.
