In 1940 a timeless classic known as Pinocchio was released by Disney. While there were many memorable characters in this movie like Jiminy Cricket and Pinocchio himself, there was one more that left a small but lasting impression on audiences. That character just happens to be Gepetto’s cat, Figaro. Disney often brings animals and inanimate objects to life in his movies and cartoons but Figaro is one of two known characters, the other being Pluto, which was not made into a talking character. Instead, Figaro is just a regular meowing house cat.
After starring in Pinocchio, Figaro’s career carried on into three more short films, Figaro & Cleo, Bath Day, and Figaro & Frankie. After these three cameos, the adorable cat seemed to disappear from Disney screens. At one point Figaro was used as a mascot in WWII. In 1999, Figaro returned to the big screen in four more Disney shorts. Regardless of his few appearances over the last 75 years, people have still grown fond of the cute cat.
